
Adrian David Cheok (b. 1971, Adelaide, Australia)
Artist, scientist, researcher. Graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic) from the University of Adelaide and a PhD in Engineering in 1998. An expert in entertainment computing, interactive user interfaces and mixed reality, his research focuses on the technologies of human-computer interaction, wearable computers as well as the design and application of power electronics. Cheok has successfully obtained funding for projects from Nike, National Oilwell Varco, Defense Science Technology Agency, Ministry of Communications and Arts, National Arts Council and Singapore Science Center. His research has received international media coverage from associations such as CNN, CNBC, ABC, Discovery and National Geographic. His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Future (Ars Electronica, Linz) and Wired NextFest (2005, 2007) as the world’s top innovations, selected by Wired magazine. Cheok is Editor of journals such as: Transactions on Edutainment (Springer), International Journal of Arts and Technology, and International Journal of Entertainment Technology and Management. Cheok is the founding and current Chairman of the Singapore Computer Society Special Interest Group on Entertainment Computing (ACM SIGCHI). He was awarded the Hitachi Fellowship (2003), the A-STAR Young Scientist of the Year Award (2003), an Associate of the Arts award by the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts of Singapore (2004), Microsoft Research Award for Gaming and Graphics (2005) and Young Global Leader 2008 by the World Economic Forum. Cheok is currently Director of the Mixed Reality Lab (National University of Singapore) and a professor at the Graduate School of Media Design of Keio University (Singapore).
