Brandon Ballengee (b.1974, Sandusky, Ohio, USA)
Artist, researcher. Graduated from the Art College of Maryland Institute (Baltimore, Maryland) and the Art Academy of Cincinnati (Ohio). He has participated in several solo exhibitions, including Imaging Biodiversity (Yager Museum, Oneonta, 2003), Brandon Ballengee (Archibald Arts, New York, 2004), Love Motel for Insects: Bavaria Variation (Kunstverein Ingolstadt, Ingolstadt, 2005), Early Life (Peabody Museum of Natural History, Yale University, New Haven, 2007) and Silent Migration (Arsenal Gallery, New York, 2007). In 1996, Ballengee began collaborating with biology scientists to create ecological and biological research projects in different countries. His projects were covered by various media, such as ABC’s World News Tonight, BBC’s Today Show, The Guardian, The New York Times, The Village Voice, The New Yorker and The Sciences. Ballengee has been a part of numerous contemporary art group exhibitions, namely Paradise Now (Exit Art, New York, 2000), Ecoventions (The Contemporary Arts Center of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, 2002), Cleanrooms (Natural History Museum, London, 2003), Anima Mundi (San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, 2004), Visions of Nature (Geumgang Nature Art Museum, Kung Ju, 2005) and Dios de Bioart 07 (Centre d’Art Santa Monica, Barcelona, 2007) as well as in the Biennales of Perth (Australia), Kung Ju (Korea) and Venice (Italy). He was awarded the New York State Council of the Arts Grant (2003), the Puffin Foundation Grant (2003, 2005) and the E-STAR Residency at the Institute for Electronic Arts of the Alfred University (New York, 2001), supported by Rockefeller Foundation. Ballengee is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Applied Sciences and Art, Hochschule fur Gestaltung in Zurich (Switzerland).
