David Bowen (b.1975, Indianapolis, USA)
Artist, researcher. Graduated with a BFA from the University of Indiana (Indianapolis) in 1999 and MFA from the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis) in 2004. His research emphasizes the development of author automated objects and interactive installations. Bowen has participated in several solo exhibitions, among them: Recent Works (Lafayette Museum of Art, Lafayette, 2002), Interaction (Paul Whitney Larson Gallery, St. Paul, 2003), Interactive Systems (Zone Gallery, Kansas City, 2004), On growth and form (Rochester Art Center, Rochester, 2007) and Anomalies (Hotcakes Gallery, Milwaukee, 2007). His works have been showcased at contemporary art exhibitions in the USA and abroad, including Art of Machines (San Francisco, 2003), ArtBots (New York, 2003), Draw (Minneapolis, 2004), Thailand New Media Art Festival (Bangkok, 2005), Light/Sound/Action: Art and Technology (Utica, 2006), From/About (Budapest, 2006), Robotix (Brussels, 2006), artLA (Santa Monica, 2007), Automation (Detroit, 2007), The Minnesota Biennial: 3D II (St. Paul, 2007), Brainwave (New York, 2008), Abels Sketchbook (Stavanger, 2008). Bowen received second prize from the Kinetic Art Organization (USA) and grants from the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art (Omaha), the New York State Arts Board and the Universities of Minnesota and Kansas. He has given lectures in various educational institutions, namely: Washington University (St. Louis), Minneapolis College of Art and Design (Minneapolis), Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), California State University (Sacramento), the University of Washington (Seattle). Bowen is currently a professor in the Department of Art and Technology at the University of Minnesota (Duluth, Minnesota, USA).
