James Auger (b.1970, Derby, England)
Jimmy Loizeau (b.1968, St. Asaph, Wales)
Artists, researchers, designers. Graduated in 2001 with MAs from the School of Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Auger and Loizeau have been collaborating since 2001. Their research focuses on the link between art and innovative technologies and they practice alternative approaches to design work. Auger and Loizeau have taken part in group exhibitions in the UK and abroad, including 6 Visions (MDSG, Tokyo, 2001), Don’t tempt me (ICA, London; MoMA, New York, 2001), Future products (Science Museum, London, 2002), eCulture fair (Melkweg, Amsterdam, 2003), Mobilise (Digital Hub, Dublin, 2003), Designing ourselves (National Museum of Scotland, 2002-2003), Open Borders (Droog Lille, Lille, 2004), Betes de style (MUDAC, Lausanne, 2006), Philips Design exhibition (Eindhoven, 2007), Design Mai (Berlin, 2007), 21_21 Design Sight (Tokyo, 2008), Design and the Elastic Mind (MoMA, New York, 2008). They have participated in festivals such as VIPER (Basel, 2003), Experimenta (Lisbon, 2003), eBristillas (Valencia, 2004), Darklight Film Festival (Dublin, 2004), Ars Electronica (Linz, 2004) and ISEA (San Jose, 2006) as well as art and design conferences in Hannover, St. Moris, Koln, Beijing, Berlin and New York. Auger and Loizeau have lectured in various educational institutions, including the Royal College of Art (London), the Trinity College (Dublin), the University of Kingston (Kingston) and the Academy of Design (Eindhoven). Their projects have been widely covered by the press of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Japan. Auger and Loizeau are Helen Hamlyn Research Center and London Museum of Science Award winners. They were awarded Designer of the year from the Koln School of Design and Top 100 designs of 2002 from Time magazine and also received honorary mention at Ars Electronica (Linz, 2004). Auger and Loizeau currently teach at the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths University (London).
