Marcel.li Antunez Roca (b.1959, Barcelona, Spain)
Artist, performer, musician. For 20 years, he has been making robotic installations and complex mechanotronic performances. Antunez focuses on themes such as affection, identity and death, using robotic body control systems, interactive image control and exoskeletical interfaces (technological palette). His works have been exhibited at Fundacion Telefonica (Madrid), the P.A.C. (Milan), the Lieu Unique (Nantes), the ICA (London), SOU Kapelica (Ljubljana), Cena Contemporanea (Rio de Janeiro), the MACBA (Barcelona), the DOM Cultural Center (Moscow) among others. Antunez has taken part in numerous international exhibitions and festivals programs, including EMAF (Osnabruck, 1995), MUU Media Festival (Helsinki, 1996), Spiel Art (Munich, 1997), Noveaux Cinema Noveaux Medias (Montreal, 1999), ARCO (Madrid, 2000), DEAF (Rotterdam, 2003), DAF (Tokio, 2004), Robodock (Amsterdam, 2005). Antunez is the winner of various awards and prizes from the Montreal International New Film and New Media Festival (Best New Media, 1999), theatre festivals in Belgrade (Premio BITEF, 1988), Madrid (Max New Theatre Award, 2001), FAD Award (Barcelona, 2001) and Premi Ciutat (Barcelona, 2004). He received First Prize at the Festival Etrange (Paris, 1994) and honorary mention at Prix Ars Electronica (Linz, 2003). Antunez has taken part in international contemporary art conferences in Spain, Italy, France, Croatia, Slovenia, among others. He has given lectures in various educational institutions in Spain, including the Universities of Cordoba, Madrid, Barcelona, Tarragona, Bilbao and Malaga. From 1979-1989, Antunez was an actor and Artistic Coordinator for La Fura dels Baus theatre, assisting in over 500 performances in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania.
