
Mateusz Herczka (b.1970, Bydgoszcz, Poland)
Artist, dramatist. Graduated with a BFA in 1993 from Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore) and MFA in 2005 from the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague). His research focuses on contemporary arts, including theatre, music and visual arts. Herczka has participated in solo exhibitions in galleries such as Dansens Hus (Stockholm, 1997), Carte Blanche (Bergen, 1999), Pieterskerk (Leiden, 2003), Mediamatic (Amsterdam, 2005) and Artis (Hertogenbosch, 2006). His works have been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art (The Hague), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Witte Dame (Eindhoven), Tate Modern (London), Gem Museum van Actuele Kunst (The Hague), Leeds University Art Center (Leeds), Moderna Museet (Stockholm), Schevtschenko Gallery (Stockholm), Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo (Seville) and in festivals such as Elektronmusikfestivalen (Fylkingen, Stockholm, 1998), DotNu Festival (Rotterdam, 2002), Today's Art Festival (The Hague, 2005), Prix Ars Electronica (Linz, 2005), Stockholmsfestivalen (Stockholm, 2006), amongst others. As a dramatist and performer, he has taken part in theatre performances including: Coming Undone (Dansstationen, Malino, 2001), Preiser Movement System (The Place, London, 2002), t.lab (Dansens Hus, Stockholm, 2004) and Hello Performance (Moderna Dansteatern, Stockholm, 2006). Herczka’s music, video and design have been presented in the Royal Swedish Ballet (Stockholm), Moderna Dansteatern (Stockholm), Helsinki City Theatre (Helsinki), Galapagos (New York) and Kulturhuset (Stockholm). He has been granted the Prix Ars Electronica Distinction Award (Linz, 2005). Herczka currently teaches at the Faculty of Art and Science at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (the Netherlands).
